I think the best toy in the world is a swing. Here is a picture of my daughter, swinging on a school swing near her college during early spring. Bare feet touching the blue sky, arms stretched, hair flying, eyes taking in an upside-down view of the world....swinging combines fun with a sense of barely-controlled danger. We almost feel as though we are flying. When was the last time you had a ride on a swing? Do you remember when you first pumped? Do you remember trying to touch tree leaves high overhead with your saddle shoes/mary janes/moccasins/deck shoes/tennis shoes/rain boots? Or your death-defying leap from the top of the arc? From babyhood, through old age, swinging is a joy! Read my article about it in the winter issue of Rhythm of the Home online magazine. Just push the button in the right hand column. love, Beth

That's great. We are putting up a swing in our front yard for Christmas. The kids love it.
The only argument is whether it's going to be a flat board swing or a tire swing!
Wow! COOL picture!
Can't wait to read it. You are so awesome - I am glad our paths met.

OH YES!! I totally agree with you Beth. I hope the day never comes when I can't jump on a swing at the park and pump to the sky with my kids and grandkids.
Love, love,

Dear Beth,
I am a big SWING FAN!! we have no garden though.....no tree swing for us.....you know what I did?? I hung a swing in the middle of our living room! Now my two kids swing from wall to wall!
Love your blog!
Forgot to say:
love your Rhythm of the home article about swinging, how good you are with words, I cant imagine anybody to write about swinging such long and inspiring!!
and
i love the APPLES on top of AcornPies! Remind me so much of my home in Germany.
Thanks!
Hi Beth
Yes, we too have swings in the garden and they are our most beloved toy. The chains on these are so long that the arc for the swing swoops for what seems like miles! puts a park swing to shame (and Ned rarely wants to go on a park swing anymore- too boring!)
Congratulations on your story in ROTH.

I see we are all great swing fans. I want to swing right now! It is such a gorgeous day! Thanks for your great comments! love, Beth
Beth,
I love your words about swinging! One should never be too old to swing! It's pure joy....and so true about how we all ( even as we age) need a push here and there to refocus or inspire us to keep moving...
thank you for sharing... and I adore you art work!
Deb
Thanks, Deb! What thoughtful words....about needing a push to refocus or to inspire us to keep moving.....Beth
Beth isn't it! We have swings hanging all around our farm, the boys use the trees to. I love to sing "how would you like to go up in the air, up in the air so blue" do you know that song/rhyme? It's our family favorite.
Swinging sets a mood of peaceful rhythm for the child.
