Tacky Lights

It is Christmas tide, and we nestle close to one another in the light of glowing candles, crackling fires, discreetly twinkling Christmas lights...... and the power plant-draining blare of tacky light displays.

Creative expression comes in all shapes, forms, and wattage levels.

The people who created these home light displays have been adding to them for 30 or 40 years.

Santa Claus and the Holy Family coexist peacefully in the jumble.

 More is more.

Thousands and thousands of people flock to marvel at these blockbuster displays.  Tiny neighborhood streets are jammed with cars, crowds of people, limousines, and buses.  Maybe you are thanking your lucky stars that this isn't going on next door to you.  I am.  But I am also marveling at the time investment, the effort, the ingenuity, and in the case of this fifty foot tall tree, the beauty, of tacky light displays.

Its true that logistically I am glad they aren't my neighbors, but wow... I am in awe at the hard work and dedication some families share with others at the holidays. Its so magical! I really do love that tree. (as long as you stay away from thinking about things like power, waste, bla bla bla)

I'm speechless, but I know one thing for sure...children must love this!

Once a year we venture out to "The Christmas House" - looks very much like the one you have featured. It is enjoyable and very wacky compared to my little candles in the windows and paper snowflakes. I like wacky when it is in another town. (SMILE)

Our neighbors across the street have a very pretty house - until they put up very fast multi-colored lights!!! Sigh.

It never ceases to amaze me what people think is festive.

Namaste, Nicole

It's not my idea of Christmas decorating, but I still think it's fun as long as it is far away! Beth

Oh my! Sooooo many lights! There were not as many up this year because of an unexpected blizzard here in Minnesota. I like your new header, the figurines are lovely. Take care.

The tree is awesome...every branch so carefully wrapped!

Not my thing, but certainly an expression of joy!
