I can't wait to wear this hat. It is a simple roll-brimmed hat knit in some colors which look nice with my hair and skin. I don't usually use these sorts of colors, so I have worked slowly, and frogged a lot of it as I experimented with the combinations.
I used this scarf as inspiration for the color combinations.
The purple looks very dominant in the basket, but there will only be one thin stripe of it.
I may remove the gold and orange. I love the way they look with the other colors, but with everything happening in the scarf already, that streak of sunshine in the hat might be too much. Something more blended might look better. What do you think?

I love the colors! the gold looks lovely with the rest, but you might want to not put any more in, it might overpower the other colors.
I think the orange and gold is what makes it alive! I am not as brave about colour as you are, but usually have a good eye for design and I think it would be almost too sedate otherwise, especially paired with the scarf.
The way I see it, it is like sunrise or sunset. the berry colours and the sunshine colours all work together because they all are part of various sunsets/sunrises - sometimes even all at once!
I think if you do some more of the berry colours beyond the orange and gold they won't seem to stand out as much as they do at present in the photo.
It looks like you'll have enough left over to make one that is more plain if you aren't confident about the sunshine colours when you finish. good luck!

Tell your friend Gabriele there are a lot of people, even those of us who are here in Japan, praying for her and for things to get better. Also, I wrote about "Operation Backpack" on my blog today if you want to let your readers know about a fun way to help Japanese Children! (Sponsored by the Misawa Girl Scouts!)
Thanks!

oooh! i love it. what yarn are you using? since you asked, i think i would pull out the streak of sunshine. i imagined it without and preferred it thataway. : ) happy knitting!
Oh Beth, that is gorgeous! The colors make me happy just looking at them!
I really love your colors, all of them....as in your scarf. What nice yarn! I am not good at answering individual comments in my blog but I did write back to you yesterday if you want to check. Keep knitting!
Thank you so much for your great feedback! I'm still not sure about the golden tones, but perhaps what I should do is leave that little streak there a while longer and just knit a little bit more in the muted reds/pinks....and then decide what to do. If it sticks out too much I could take it out. I think it would have looked better lower in the body of the knitting, too. love, Beth
I vote to keep those streaks of sunshine! They look lovely! Your colour combinations are so beautiful, I can hardly wait to see the finished hat!

So pretty and festive!
I love the colours as they are. I wouldn't change a thing.
Very warm, happy colours!
Anushka, It is a mixture of different yarns. Mostly "Cascade", but there is also some "Julia". I'm sorry, I have lost the labels. I'm not sure who makes those yarns. love, Beth
