Grindelwald

One of our first trips, once we got to Switzerland this late summer, was to Grindelwald.

The river in this dramatic gorge is fed by a melting glacier.

Water rained down from high above.

The forests around the gorge were lush.

We eventually climbed to the top of the gorge and looked down.

We were tired after our long hike, and stopped in this little inn for some drinks.

My boy drank Ribella, which is a drink made out of whey.

On our way back down the mountain, we saw that a nature artist had wrapped twigs around tree trunks.

We love Switzerland, and already feel at home!

Beth, so glad you are back! And you are really in Switzerland! Makes me so homesick for Munich, where I grew up, so close to the Bavarian Alps. You are fortunate beyond words--Switzerland is one of the loveliest places on the planet!

Dear Anushka,

It IS magicial!!!! I love it here, though I miss my family and friends. Salley, I loved meeting you this summer. There was a lot of love and warmth in the Wood's Hole Library at the celebration of your amazing work. I have your outstanding book, Pocketful of Posies sitting on the table right here beside me. Nadja, lucky you, to be from Bavaria. Do you speak German with your children? Do you ever go home to Bavaria? Thanks for your good wishes, Appleshoe! Annie, I miss you! love, Beth
