This recipe is from the now defunct and much missed Garden Mama blog.
By the way, it is bliss to squish WARM play dough. Next time you have a cranky, bored, tired, or sick child, try play dough. Don't even announce you are doing it. They might think they have outgrown it. But no one can resist it.
Gardenmama's Homemade Family Play dough recipe :.
One cup of flour
One cup of water
One half cup of salt
One teaspoon of oil
One half teaspoon of cream of tartar
Mix your flour, water, salt, oil and cream of tartar in a small saucepan.
Cook over medium heat, continually stirring until the mixture holds together.
When the dough is cooled, knead it together and enjoy your time of play!

.: Homemade play dough will last for a long time. We store ours in waxed paper taped closed. It also can make for a lovely gift when wrapped up with a pint-sized rolling pin, apron and cookie cutters! :.

I only made playdough once, quite a while back, maybe should try again, I remember it worked well.
Love to play with it myself! And the kids also like it, of course.
This school year I've made pumpkin spice playdough, snowy playdough with silver glitter, sand dougn, and last week chocolate playdough in honor of Valentine's Day. Sand dough was like bringing the beach indoors but without the mess! So dry sand crunching under foot! Chocolate smells like fudge and even has a fudgey feel. Found all my playdoughs from links via Pinterest.
Hi, Franciful Arts! Wow! I didn't know all those kinds of play dough existed. Beth
Hi, Cal,
Imagine how we would all calm down if we squished a little play dough every day! Though my art students weren't calmed down. They were excited! And for a group the clean up takes dedication....
